The horror of her sister's abduction and Lucinda's guilt manifest into years of acute insomnia. She appears to be miraculously healed when she participates in a test program that provides restful sleep but awakens a new dream realm ... an alternative existence where Lucinda can create and manipulate any fantasy inspired by her imagination.

Lucinda's new realm is shattered by a dark evil that lurks there. Evil that is not confined to nightmares, but a sinister foe that also hunts for victims in the real world.

Lucinda's discarded spiritual beliefs resurface and prompt her to begin a perilous journey against this very real threat; a heartless creature that destroys innocent lives. The dream realm, spiritual domain and Lucinda's physical reality integrate and twist together as Lucinda rediscovers her faith and confronts the monster that threatens her very life and those she loves.

Somehow when I read the synopsis for this book, I didn’t realize that it was going to be Christian fiction. Once I actually started reading it, I still didn’t notice until the story was well underway. This did not affect my reading quality at all, and even for someone who isn’t Christian, it would not feel as if the book is trying to smother readers in religion. It just gave Lucinda a true purpose and gave the story a deeper meaning than just a fantasy world filled with fantasy creatures.

Lucinda suffers from insomnia and she started to take a new pill so that she will finally be able to sleep through the night. Soon she starts to have vivid dreams and wants to stay in the dream world even more than she wants to stay in the real world. Then she realizes that there are people in the dream world who she can’t control. She might not be the only one in her dream world, and she might not have full control over everything in it.

Lucinda was definitely a strong main character. She carried the weight of her family member’s deaths on her shoulders by herself, and she committed herself entirely to her work. I definitely enjoyed seeing her let go and be able to enjoy herself in her dream world with the creatures that she had created on her own. My favorite thing to see was the forest full of fairy creatures where she had her own sign language to speak with them.

Her best friend Melanie is her only respite, but she can’t join her in her dream world. She is alone while she is there, which can be relaxing at times. However, when her own mind thinks up creatures that she feels that she can’t control, it would be nice to have someone there to help and comfort her.

The world-building was amazing. I could literally see the things that Lucinda was creating in her dream world and imagine the creatures that she was encountering. I wanted to be there with her in her perfect universe. Of course, there was conflict in this story. It did not disappoint in any way and really fleshed out the story. Even though it was a long book, it was full of worthwhile content.
There is a lot of romance in this novel. I can’t say much without revealing a spoiler, but there are definitely some adult themes. The book was pretty clean overall though.

I didn’t notice any editing errors as I was reading this novel.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an amazing Christian fantasy novel with a lot of suspense and action.

Awakening Dreamers' Realm Book 1 edition by Karen Arnpriester Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Awakening is a well written novel. Arnpriester has written a Fantasy, Thriller and Romance rolled up on one good novel. I was quickly pulled into the story as I started reading. Watching the fight between good and evil unfold in my mind as I took in each page. The character development was good. I enjoyed the journey Lucinda's life took me on.
I gave this book 4 stars
I was given a copy of this book by the author for my honest review.
What starts out as a delightful fantasy, soon becomes a little troubling, then gradually escalates into a full-blown heart stopping thriller. I made the mistake of starting into the last 125 pages, at midnight. Don't do that! Soon my heart was pounding and my eyes were darting impatiently across the page, in urgent anticipation and horror of what would come in the next sentence, and the next and the next. I couldn't stop reading until the book was finished, at 400 am. No sleep for me, that night!

Awakening plays out an intense battle of Good versus Evil, with all the best ingredients in the mix--great characters, fantasy, romance, suspense, humor, and fierce unconditional friendship and love. A great read from a talented storyteller!
I wasn't sure what I was expecting with this book, but it wasn't this. Lucinda's dreams are a fantasy world for her to escape real life and I was entertained from the start. I wasn't expecting the story to go as dark as it did, but the author did a good job with it. At the first I thought it was just going to be a steady read but it really picked up at the midway/end and made it to where I didn't want to put the book down.

The author did such a good job with her imagery that you could read and just 'see' a picture being painted before you. There is a mix of fantasy, suspense, thriller, romance and more wrapped up in this story. I really did enjoy the book and was pleasantly surprised several times throughout!

It was a 4/5 for me. I saw there is a sequel already that I look forward to reading.

Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book (via PUYB). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
